The Mediterranean Coast has got 40kms of fine sand, 20kms of rocky creeks, fishing ports and Marinas.
You can take part in a whole range of nautical sports during the summer and go skiing in the winter in one of the 9 catalane ski resorts: Font-Romeu-Pyrenees2000, Formiguères, Les Angles, Porté-Puymorens, Puyvalador, la Quillane, Cerdagne-Puigmal 2900, Cambre d'Aze area and the north part of the Capcir.
Visit the architectural treasures of places like the Majorca Kings Palace, the Notre Dame des Anges Chapel in Perpignan, the Saint Martin Abbey in the mount Canigou, the Prioress in Serrabona, the Royal Castle and the fortifications of Collioure.
Famous painters such as Matisse and Derain have been inspired by the lights and spectacular colours of the landscapes of the Vermeille Coast.
Gastronomy
The gastronomy of the Pyrenees Orientales is very diversified. You can try all kind of local dishes such as the Almond crusty cookies, the aniseed Rousquilles cookies, the ouillade or ollada (porc stew), the boles de picolat (meatballs served with olive sauce), the cargolada (snails), the salpiquets of Monteges (beans), the boutifarres (catalane sausages), the fuet (catalane dry sausage), the escalivade (med vegs), potato stew, the famous catalane cream dessert, olive oil of Millas, the mineral water Semillante of Toulouges and to finish, the vines of the Roussillon.
