Discover the island of Yeu
Holidays are the perfect time to get away from it all and discover new places and unexpected landscapes.
If you're dreaming of a beach with white sand and turquoise water without having to cross the Atlantic, we've got the solution for you, just a few minutes from the Atlantic coast of Vendée.
You might say that we lack objectivity when we present the riches of the department...
We'll let you go there to form your own opinion.
You can give us your impressions when you return from this day, which should prove to be a rich and exotic experience.
We're sure that this escapade will remain etched in your hearts forever.
Unlike its sister island, Noirmoutier, there is no road to reach the island of Yeu.
You can get there either by air, by helicopter or by sea, thanks to the many ferries that make the crossing every day.
Useful information:
The nearest pier to reach Ile d'Yeu is at the port of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie.
The advantage of taking the boat from the port of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie is that you will have plenty of free parking available:
To make the most of your day, and have time to tour the island, we recommend departing around 8 a.m. In high season, ferries run regularly.
Port Joinville
Port Joinville will be your starting point for visiting the island. In this charming little port, you'll find plenty of shops, restaurants and bars... But there's no time for idleness.
It's time to start your visit to the island
The complete tour of the island is 28 kilometres long and can be done in a day by bike. As you can see, to get the most out of your visit, we recommend you hire bikes. There's no shortage of bike hire companies on the island, and there are plenty of shops on the port. During the summer months, some hire companies run out of equipment due to high demand.
Cycling around the island will allow you to discover the most beautiful spots of this jewel at your own pace. However, if the 28 kilometres seem too long, there are other, shorter routes and countless alternatives (hiking, hiring motorised vehicles, taxis, etc.).
Ra(conter) the island
If you want to know everything about this island of a thousand and one landscapes (and if cycling isn't your forte), opt for the Petit Train.
Board the Petit Train électrique de l'île d'Yeu, which departs from Port Joinville, and set off on a 2-hour guided tour.
During these 2 hours, you'll discover some of the most beautiful spots on the island: the Pointe du But, the Sabias cove, the Port de la Meule...
Between the wild coastline, small intimate coves and the rocky coastline, the guide will comment on these varied landscapes and share some juicy anecdotes with you.
There will be a 30-minute stop on the way to contemplate the beauty of the island.
The pace of the Little Train will allow you to be a privileged observer of this Eden.
After this tour, the island of Yeu will no longer hold any secrets for you. Although...
You'll certainly have to come back on numerous occasions, explore it more than you should to extract all its treasures, even the most unsuspected.
What we are certain of, however, is that you'll be able to talk about it and testify to its greatness.
Yes, this paradise island, which is still a secret, is a jewel that has a lot to teach us and that we absolutely must preserve.
Train fares :
Adults: €15
Children (aged 3 to 11): €8
Children (under 3): free
After your train or bike tour, return to Port Joinville.
While waiting for your ferry back to the mainland, stop off at a café.
There's a wide choice, but we recommend the Equateur bar.
Its waterside terrace gives you a breathtaking view of the little port.
Take your time... relax on the terrace of a café and enjoy... without worrying about the hands of the clock.
Yes, to find yourself facing the sea and contemplating the vivid picture before you.
<It's one of the simplest and most intense forms of happiness.
Isn't that what we want from our holidays after all?
Look out, there's a ferry approaching! Watch out, it could be yours.
It's already time to head back to the mainland...
Take advantage of these last moments and the crossing to close your eyes and remember the wonderful times you spent on the island.
