Ainhoa excursion experience
For this 100 % nature getaway, we're taking you away from your base camp and leaving behind the breathtaking ocean views from the campsite.
It may seem like a heartbreaker...
But believe us, the Basque Country is full of unsuspected treasures, and where we're taking you, you're going to be in for a real treat, if I do say so myself.
Head for Ainhoa, a fortified village listed as one of France's most beautiful villages, 30 minutes' drive from the campsite and the starting point for our hike.
As you can see, today is the time to don your sportsman's uniform and get ready for an exciting adventure...
To get the most out of the day, you'll need to plan ahead:
The challenge...
An 8.6-kilometre loop that takes you to the heights of Ainhoa.
It takes around 3 hours 40 minutes to complete this loop (average difficulty according to the Visorando website).
The name given to this trail, Bixta Eder, which literally means "Beautiful View", is clearly not usurped. It offers breathtaking 360° views of the Rhune, the border peaks and the ocean.
These grandiose panoramas are well worth capturing in photographs.
Note: the route is very well signposted. However, you will find little shade on the tour.
We therefore advise against setting off on hot days.
On your return from this walk, take time to explore the fortified village of Ainhoa
where you can meet craftsmen, sample local produce and why not treat yourself to some typical regional products.
