Cadaques Experience
Let us tell you about our region...
It's full of unsuspected treasures and it would be indecent of us to keep these famous secrets to ourselves...
You may have set foot in our campsites without knowing that a few leagues from here, on the other side of the border, the soul of Dali still hovers over majestic Cadaqués.
That's the experience we'd like to share with you today...
"Discovering Cadaqués in the footsteps of Dali...".
But first and foremost, as the saying goes, "preparation is worth action".
For this dream day, you'll need to bring ..:
Departure from the campsite at the crack of dawn!
It takes just over an hour to drive to "La Belle" and cross the border. The sooner you leave, the better. The programme is copious, and to enjoy it to the full, allow yourself as much time as you need.
Good advice:When you arrive in Cadaqués, don't make the mistake of driving to the centre of the village. Park at the top of the village, trust us, you'll thank us for this advice on your return.
And so the adventure began...
As soon as you set foot in Cadaqués, you'll know you've made the right choice.
The charm, and I'll bet it's a strong one, is immediate.
Yes, visiting Cadaqués is the promise of an invigorating and unique odyssey, placed under the banner of romance. This sublime, lively port is an invitation to stroll.
I think we could say without blinking an eye that Charles Baudelaire's lines sum up the feeling we get when we wander through the flower-filled streets of this picturesque village.
"There, all is order and beauty, luxury, calm and pleasure.
Really, take the time to explore every nook and cranny of this craggy paradise (yes, believe us, your calves will love this workout!).
Here, the noise of engines is banished (apart from the locals, cars are virtually unheard of).
Here, artists exhibit their works, craftsmen share their unique skills.
Here, at every street corner, you are reminded of the omnipotence, even if the term is no doubt clumsily used, of Dali.
His genius seems to reign supreme over this city.

After this morning appetiser, and before sitting down to dinner (picnic or sunny terrace, the choice is yours), why not take advantage of the many beaches in the city centre to cool off.
Playa Es Sortell, one of our favourites, is just 300 metres from the town centre.
You'll be able to savour these calm, crystal-clear waters to your heart's content, while taking in the view of the pretty white houses of Cadaquès.
NB: the wild, intimate coves, the ones used as backdrops for postcards, can be found around Cap de Creus. Since there's no point in running... The best thing to do is return to Cadaqués and spend another day exploring.
In the footsteps of Dali...
Then it's off to the Dali museum...
From the centre of Cadaqués, it's about a 30-minute walk to Portlligat and Dali's house.
Honestly, it's an experience we recommend...
A real immersion in the artist's daily life.
His eccentricity, his poetry, his excesses, you only have to close your eyes for a few seconds to feel his presence at your side. It's disconcerting. Fascinating.
As soon as you step inside, the tone is set. You are greeted by a stuffed bear dressed in Dali's carefully chosen finery. Next, you'll discover his studio and the ingenious mechanism he devised to paint his canvases while remaining seated. An unfinished canvas remains on the easel, testifying to his absence and the emptiness he left behind... It's impossible not to think of the artist's last brushstrokes and wonder... What was he thinking? What did he intend to leave us?
We won't take the mystery away, but when you open the doors of this museum, you will have the pleasant impression of visiting the inner workings of this unforgettable artist.

When you leave Dali's lair, you'll certainly need a few moments to recover your senses... Take the opportunity to treat yourself to a refreshment before heading back to Cadaqués and taking to the road again with memories and stars in your eyes.
