Noirmoutier by bike

For an out-of-the-ordinary adventure: set course for the Noirmoutier peninsula... but forget the ordinary roads. Make a spectacular entrance by taking the mythical Passage du Gois, 40 minutes from the Bahamas Beach campsite and the Domaine de Beaulieu campsite, less than 55 minutes from the La Trévillère campsite, and 35 minutes from the Les Écureuils campsite, which is only accessible at low tide.

Discover the island's charm by bike
This suspended moment, when the sea recedes to let you pass, is the perfect introduction to this island adventure. As soon as you arrive, hire bikes at the entrance to the island in Barbâtre: they'll be your faithful companions for the day! Take the opportunity to stop off in this sumptuous village.
With Vél'Hop, you can hire a bike for €16 a day for an adult, €12 for a child and €33 for an electric bike.
A historic centre to discover
Ride with the wind for 35 minutes to the historic centre of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île. This little gem of flower-filled lanes, colourful shutters and fishermen's houses will tell you a thousand stories. Stroll through the Banzeau district, walk along the harbour, visit the medieval castle, pass in front of the door of the Hôtel Jacobsen or, even better, visit this emblematic house (Rates: adults €5, children €3).
A meal in the shade of the pines
Then head for a turquoise lagoon, a must-see: Plage du Veillon! Golden sand, water The narrow streets of the village are full of charming restaurants... but prices sometimes soar as fast as the seagulls above the harbour. So we suggest you get back in the saddle of your bike and head for the Bois de la Chaise. Its hundred-year-old pines and clear-water coves offer an enchanting setting for a picnic in the shade of the tall trees. Pack your picnic basket, find an idyllic spot and sit down to enjoy your meal.and wind-sculpted dunes, this jewel of the Vendée coast is a picture-postcard setting waiting to be discovered.

End of the day between the market and the call of the ocean
After this feast in the heart of nature, head down to Plage des Dames, with its iconic white wooden cabins. Let your footsteps wander across the hot sand, the salty wind on your skin and the sun as your only companion.

A breath of authenticity
Then head west to Le Vieil, an authentic postcard village where the white walls seem to slow down time. Then, in just 16 minutes on the clock, head back up to the port of L'Herbaudière. Watch the fishermen, the sails crossing and get caught up in the maritime atmosphere. The route continues southwards for 40 minutes, skirting the salt marshes. Here, the white gold of Noirmoutier shimmers under the sky. Let yourself be mesmerised by these sumptuous landscapes.
A final sip of the sea
Finally, to round off your journey, once you've arrived in La Guérinière and more specifically at the famous Port du Bonhomme, why not end it with a nightcap? A gourmet stopover? Le P'tit Louis, a typical oyster bar, welcomes you with open arms. A glass of chilled white wine, a few freshly opened oysters, all overlooking the sea... it's a finale worthy of the best summer memories.
Get on your bikes one last time and head towards Barbâtre, for around fifteen minutes. Then it's time to leave this island of a thousand faces... via the bridge for a peaceful outing, or, for the more nostalgic, via the legendary Passage du Gois, sea conditions permitting. A day you won't soon forget.
