farm visit in the basque country

Immersion at Agerria Farm

Head for Saint-Martin-d'Arberoue, a charming village between the mountains of Itxassou and Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, 45 minutes from Camping l'International Erromardie. It's here that the Agerria farm welcomes you for an immersion in the Basque world.

This family-run farm breeds the famous Manech sheep at Tête-Rousse, emblematic of the region. With passion and generosity, the breeders share with you their daily lives, their ancestral skills and the love they have for their profession.

The tour begins in the pastures, then moves on to the production workshop, where one of the valley's treasures is created: Ossau-Iraty, a PDO cheese with a distinct flavour, the result of months of patient maturing. Here, nothing is left to chance: every stage, from curdling to moulding, respects the rules of the past.

💡To wit:

  • Open all year round, Monday to Saturday
  • Book online, by telephone or by e-mail
  • Prices: €6.50/adult; €3.50/child (5-14 years); €20 for a family ticket (2 adults and 3 children).
  • Length of guided tour with tasting: 1 hour
  • Possibility, during the summer season, of attending the regain cup

The tasting moment

And then comes the moment you've been waiting for: the tasting. Around a large rustic table, you can taste different matured Ossau-Iraty cheeses, sausages, PDO Kintoa ham and chorizo. A moment suspended in time, where the flavours tell the story of the mountains and the people who live there.

And to extend the pleasure, a picnic area awaits you outside the farm. If it rains, don't worry: a room equipped with tables and chairs has been set aside to offer you a sheltered and comfortable spot. Camping l'International Erromardie has also thought of everything for your gourmet getaway: a bread delivery service is available. All you have to do is pick up your baguette, prepare your sandwiches... and set off on your adventure!

visit to collioure
diving in socoa bay

The call of the deep blue: diving in Socoa Bay

In the early afternoon, leave the hills behind and head for the Atlantic. The road winds through the Basque countryside, crossing Saint-Jean-de-Luz and taking you to Socoa, a charming district of Ciboure, protected by its 17th-century fort facing the ocean.

This is where your marine adventure begins, in the heart of the bay. Accompanied by a qualified instructor from Odyssée Bleue Socoa, you'll put on your wetsuit, flippers, mask and snorkel for a snorkelling session or an introduction to scuba diving, depending on your level.

💡 Practical information for scuba diving :

  • Price: €85/person or €40/accompanying person
  • Bring a swimming costume, towel, beach shoes and cap.
  • At least 8 years old

Socoa Bay is a veritable paradise for aquatic exploration. From the first few metres, the turquoise reflections reveal an abundance of life, including moonfish, octopus and sea bream.
Beneath the surface, silence reigns, punctuated only by the bubbles of your breath. This calm, mysterious world contrasts with the bustle of the Basque countryside. The water is cool and invigorating, while your gaze wanders between sand, rocks and undulating seaweed.

A gentle end to the day in front of the harbour

After this marine interlude, you'll return to dry land with a light heart and salty cheeks. To round off this wonderful day, treat yourself to a refreshing break on the terrace overlooking the harbour at the Belhabar. The setting is sublime and the view of the boats unbeatable. And if you feel like it, extend the moment by dining in: the atmosphere is as tasty as the food.
